We believe in God and so we believe the Bible, God’s Word. But what is the Bible? How did it come to be? How did it get to me? Why does it have authority? Which books belong in the Bible and which don’t? What is the difference between one translation and the next?

In the Fall of 2015 the Reformed Bible College offered a course on this topic entitled “God’s Word in Writing”. In the winter of 2016 a follow up course was offered, entitled “Understanding God’s Written Word.” In view of the fact that the Fall course was attended mainly by people from the east end of the Fraser Valley, and the fact that many people who took the second course had not taken the first course, the course “God’s Word in Writing” is being offered again.

This course is considered especially helpful for (aspiring) church leaders such as elders, for teachers, and for post-secondary students. Of course anyone interested is welcome to attend. Topics to be covered include: human authorship, manuscript history, textual criticism, the formation of the canon, the authority of Scripture, and English Bible translations.

The course will again be taught by the Rev. Dr. Karlo Janssen. This time the location for the classes will be the Willoughby-Heights CanRC building. The 4 two-hour classes are currently planned for Thursday Sept 22, Friday Sept 23, Thursday Sept 29 and Friday Sept 30. Classes will begin each evening at 7:30pm.
