In many ways the reformation stimulated a return to biblical preaching. As reformed churches we value biblical preaching, but are you ready to go to jail to preserve it? While we have faced this threat yet in Canada we are increasingly living a society which is hostile to biblical truths and therefore can expect this to become a reality! This Reformation Day Rally we will consider how John Bunyan went to jail because of his refusal to stop preaching God’s Word. John Bunyan is probably most well-known for his writings and the book Pilgrim’s Progress has sold millions of copies. Yet, John Bunyan was first a biblical preacher who brought the Word of God to bear upon the minds and the hearts of those who heard him. Charles II once asked John Owen (1616–1683), “the prince of Puritans,” why he went to hear the preaching of the unlearned tinker of Bedford, John Bunyan. Owen responded, “May it please your majesty, could I possess the tinker’s abilities for preaching, I would willingly relinquish all my learning.” Come hear why John Owen would make such a comment.
As in previous years, the evening will be hosted by the Reformed Bible College. The topic will be introduced to us by Rev. John Koopman, minister of the Free Reformed Church in Chilliwack. Attendance numbers are limited. The event will also be live streamed. Attendance is free, during the evening there will be opportunity to donate to the RBC.
